Gion Shinbashi Bridge
Kyoto Prefecture, Japan • Entertainment
Perhaps the main spot on Shirakawa Street is this place. Lined with more than forty lush cherry and zelkova trees along a small waterway, the area shines at night with old Japanese buildings illuminated, flowers, and the river reflecting the lights. The scenery is beautiful, full of Kyoto's charm, and it's a common sight to see wedding photos being taken here. Interestingly, most of them are Chinese. Why in Japan, of all places?
Anyway, this area, packed with upscale bars and ryokans, offers frequent sightings of geishas and maikos in kimonos. It's perfect for experiencing the atmosphere of Kyoto while taking a stroll.
