Eikandō Temple
Kyoto Prefecture, Japan • Entertainment
Eikando (Zenrinji) is famous for its maple trees, with over 3,000 planted within its precincts. While the place is famously crowded during the autumn season, it remains relatively tranquil during other seasons. I personally enjoy the calm and serene atmosphere unique to Eikando, leading me to visit often even in seasons other than autumn. Walking inside the temple compels one into a meditative state, surrounded by the peaceful and calm scenery. The views from between the buildings' corridors are stunningly beautiful. Although the maple season is famously beautiful, spring and summer's lush greenery is surprisingly lovely. I prefer the less crowded and equally beautiful greenery-filled Eikando. Notable spots in Eikando include the Tahoto Pagoda, which offers a panoramic view of Kyoto city, and the large Hojo pond in the central garden. The corridor of stairs leading to Tahoto Pagoda is impressively majestic. Particularly, the Hojo pond during the maple season reflects the colorful leaves, creating a stunning effect. I adore the path from Nanzenji to Eikando. If visiting Nanzenji, I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll to Eikando. The spot is satisfying at any time, not just during the maple season. 🧾 Admission fee 600 (1,000 during the autumn season) 🕙 Open daily from 09:00 - 16:00 (last admission at 17:00) 📍48 Eikandocho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto
