Honke Daiichi-Asahi
Kyoto Prefecture, Japan • Restaurant

A ramen shop that opens at 6 am, popular among locals, requiring a 40-minute wait if you visit around 8 am. Located a 4-minute walk from Kyoto station, the place is not large, leading to long lines, but staff provide menus to those waiting.
Upon entering with a staff's guidance, solo visitors may have to share a table, something to be mindful of. I ended up dining with an unknown Japanese gentleman with an acrylic panel between us.
The signature dish is a special ramen for 950 yen, average-priced compared to other foods in Japan. It's a soy sauce ramen based on pork bone broth, with noodles and char siu topped with bean sprouts and green onions. The meat is thick and in good quantity, but the soy flavor is strong and slightly salty.
Gyoza dumplings were also ordered, tasting average rather than extraordinary. It's a famous eatery, but whether it's worth waiting 40 minutes to an hour for is debatable.
