MALEBRANCHE Kyoto Kitayama Main Store
Kyoto Prefecture, Japan • Restaurant

Marblanche, a matcha confectionery specialist, began its journey in Kyoto in 1982, earning fame throughout Japan. Matcha, powdered green tea leaves, has been used by Japanese to develop various styles of desserts. Apart from matcha-based desserts, Marblanche offers a wide variety of other desserts. Among these, the signature 'Chanoka,' made with high-quality matcha 'Koi-cha,' stands out for its authentic fragrance and subtle, clean taste, attracting most individuals to visit. Unaware of Marblanche's fame or its reputation for matcha, I ended up buying other snacks but would like to try Chanoka if I visit Japan again. The main store also houses a cafe, providing space to enjoy tea and desserts. Although I wanted to spend more time in the cafe, my tight schedule led me to purchase a boxed set of snacks instead. Chanoka is priced at around 136 yen each. This place carries the pride of being a brand in the ancient capital, Kyoto, and boasts desserts based on green tea grown in Kyoto's renowned waters. Most products have a shelf life of about two weeks, making them a perfect dessert to pick up towards the end of a trip. Besides the Kitayama main store, there are also locations near Kyoto Station and Kiyomizu-dera, making it a convenient stop on the way to famous tourist spots.
