Yeosan Service Area

I never thought I'd be writing a rest stop review, but here we are, all because of the Chungmu Gimbap at Yeosan Rest Stop. Initially, I intended to try the Yeosan Onion Jeyuk Bulgogi set recommended by Lee Young-ja, but it was early morning and the dish wasn't ready, so I opted for Yubu Udon and Chungmu Gimbap instead. Unlike the usual practice of serving pre-wrapped Chungmu Gimbap, it seemed they prepared it fresh upon order here. The perfectly roasted seaweed with warm rice and the rich sesame oil aroma were exquisitely nutty, a treat I hadn't enjoyed in a long while. Chungmu Gimbap may seem like just rice in seaweed, but accompany it with a bite of the side dishes, squid radish salad, and stone kimchi, and you'll feel content. The sides are not too spicy, just mouth-wateringly savory. It's been a while since such a simple dish cheered me up. The udon was special too. Its noodles were chewier and more plump than those from other rest stops. The feeling of them swirling around my mouth was delightful. True to its name, the Yubu Udon was packed with fried tofu, and the broth was refreshingly delicious. A visit to Yeosan Rest Stop, especially when heading south, is certainly recommendable.
