The temple in Arashiyama, built in 1339 by the shogun Ashikaga Takauji to mourn Emperor Go-Daigo, is renowned for its garden surrounding the temple's pond. Despite suffering from eight fires since 1356, most of the current buildings were reconstructed during the Meiji period. The highlight is the main hall, which serves as the abbot’s quarters, offering a different view from the karesansui gardens found in many Japanese temples. The garden, designed by Muso Soseki, enables visitors to enjoy various landscapes surrounding the pond. Many find sitting on the benches facing the garden to provide an even more memorable experience than walking around.
