The term 'folding screen' often means an inconspicuous object placed behind the stage. Traditionally, folding screens have played the role of a supporting role that shines the spotlight on others. However, the Amorepacific Museum's [Joseon, the Land of Folding Screens 2] exhibition focuses on the format of the 'folding screen' itself, aiming to reconsider its value and significance as a visual medium. Furthermore, through the various paintings contained in the folding screen, it hopes to provide an opportunity to feel the beautiful and refined aesthetic of our traditional art. The [Joseon, the Land of Folding Screens 2] exhibition presents folding screens that were difficult to encounter in previous Korean art history exhibitions and introduces newly collected folding screens by the Amorepacific Museum. About 50 works collected from 15 institutions and individuals, showcasing the essence of folding screens from the Joseon Dynasty to modern times, have been prepared. In particular, by minimizing the distance between the folding screens and the visitors, they aimed to show the brush strokes, color, and details in the paintings closely and reveal the personality, unrestrained freedom, elegance, and sophistication of the folding screens. Moreover, by attempting a contemporary space design, they highlighted the sophisticated beauty of traditional painting. Furthermore, they sought exhibition plans considering the environment, installing exhibition structures that minimize waste. Especially after the exhibition ends, no temporary walls that would be disposed of were used, and materials that could be reused in other exhibitions were actively utilized in the exhibition design.
