Morihico Coffee
Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan • Cafe
'A red-roofed two-story building in front of a winding walkway like a cat's tail.' As introduced on its website, the cafe <Morihiko> is located at the entrance to the residential area of Maruyama, a quiet neighborhood in Sapporo. The cafe, which utilizes a renovated two-story house, has a relatively small interior space but does not feel stuffy due to the high ceilings. If possible, seats near the kitchen on the first floor are recommended. The sound of the staff busily making coffee at tables filled with dim lights, sewing machines, old books, and bottles of syrup makes you not want to leave. Perhaps that's why. Although the cafe is small, it's not uncommon to see a long waiting line. The menu recommendations are mild coffee and cheese toast. Enjoying the snowy landscape of Maruyama from inside the cafe is wonderful, but the exterior of <Morihiko>, covered with vines in summer, offers a different charm from winter.
