'Regional Identity'
Each region has its own unique stories. These stories form the identity of the region, creating pride for local residents and memories for travelers. Therefore, local governments, such as in Pohang-si where the tales of Yeonorang and Saeonyeo originated, or in Gimpo-si where the story of brothers throwing gold nuggets into a river began, have found their identity in their history. An exemplary case of this is Jecheon-si in Chungcheongbuk-do. The 'Je' character in Jecheon means a bank that stops water. Therefore, Jecheon has long been known as a reservoir. It is called Uirimji. The Uirimji History Museum not only explains reservoirs that protect farmland from floods and droughts, but also encompasses the history, ecology, and culture that have arisen from them. As Danish futurist Rolf Jensen suggested, in the 'Dream Society,' where emotional elements such as dreams and stories take precedence over the information age, people are drawn to places rich in culture. Therefore, there is joy in discovering the identity of a region within well-designed spaces that offer experiential activities, media art, and storytelling.
