The iconic airline brand Pan Am, despite its bankruptcy in 1991 due to financial difficulties, is still discussed today for its international travel achievements and as a symbol of America. It has reinterpreted its heritage to fit the modern era with the brand concept 'LIFE JOURNEY GEAR,' which turns ordinary activities like listening to music, visiting cafes, and shopping into special journeys. The first collection AW22 consists of three lines: Clipper, Journey, and Life, ranging from top-tier to sporty and casual lines. Situated in a once-neglected building in Seongsu-dong, the store retains the building's original form while showcasing Pan Am's identity with its signature blue and white colors. The narrow entrance sparks curiosity and excitement, evoking nostalgia in those familiar with Pan Am's legacy and wonder in those new to it. The launch of the first collection involves collaborations with artists and lifestyle brands, offering Pan Am-inspired artwork and F&B, and various content. It represents a space that surpasses its prestigious past.

Seongsu-dong, heading for splendor on a desolate road.

The story begins in the 1950s. Seongsu-dong is now full of young people. Many people who follow the times and trends gather here and walk the streets. But what would it be like in the past, if you could play a boat on Ttukseom Island and believe that a racetrack was located before it became the present Seoul Forest.

As urbanization began in the late 1950s, small and medium-sized factories began to be built in Ttukseom and Seongsu-dong. In the 1970s, 20 years later, in the era of industrial revival, steel, printing, wigs, and handmade shoe factories filled Seongsu-dong. Among them, a place called Geumgang Jehwa moved to Geumho-dong, and related companies that were scattered around gathered in Seongsu-dong, creating the identity of 'Seongsu-dong is handmade shoes'. Starting with that, it began to change from shoe production to handmade shoes made by shoe craftsmen. As a result, around 2010, with the support of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's economic policies, Seongsu-dong became an area specializing in handmade goods.
_
Seongsu-dong + handmade shoes = ?

Seongsu-dong, which has established itself as a street of handmade shoes, has faced a change in which surrounding artists and young designers gather one by one. Although they were artists with poor pockets, they were more suited to changing the gray factory district. Thus, the factory area has changed with artistic colors. The street that used to be filled with old houses was transformed into the trendy Seongsu-dong, where food or workshops and cafes, sometimes a combination of the two, were created, and acts of respect for the new and the existing took place simultaneously.
_
Currently, Seongsu-dong is changing a lot through various attempts. Many luxury brands are testing their potential by opening pop-up stores. As one of those processes, 'Dior Seongsu' was opened.

The facade of Dior's best boutique located at 30 Montaigna, Paris, France was taken as it was, and the facade was created by adding a transparent mesh design to the metal material. In addition, the mesh and roof secure a sense of openness. And around the building, Korean nature is together in the form of a French garden. For Dior, gardens are places of inspiration, and they exist.

Who would have thought that a place full of factories in Seongsu-dong would become a street of youth? Would you have thought that it would become a street filled with splendid luxury goods from factories in gray light? It is said that Dior said this while creating this place. “I thought it was time to show up in places where people today don’t expect us.”
_
The value of that street cannot be judged haphazardly, and no one can perfectly predict it. It is not abandoned because it is backward, but it becomes a land of opportunity for some, and to the land, that person can become a noble person. Seongsu and Dior are looking forward to what they will look like after time passes.

[Seoul Bukchon Sulwhasoo Flagship Store]

Sulwhasoo's house

At first glance, when you look at the building from the other side of the street, you can see a stylish hanok and Osulloc's Western-style house behind it. As you enter the space while looking at the panoramic view, you can see that the transparent glass is in harmony with the pillars, the symbol of hanok.

A hanok is a space created by the difference between pillars, and it is a very important feature to capture the landscape and blend it as if it were one with nature. In other words, we express it as 'borrowing the landscape, nature'. Ironically, these hanoks have parts that are in line with glass, the symbol of modern architecture, and blend well in one place, creating synergy by suggesting sophistication to the old hanok and another possibility to glass.

The space that was born with such a refined old-fashioned feel became a sufficient space to express Sulwhasoo itself. The overall tone of the space pointed to Sulwhasoo. If you follow the path guided by the building, you will arrive at Osulloc.

It serves as a device that accurately shows the passage of time by connecting hanok and western-style houses into one. Osulloc is also a cafe that offers tea as a lifestyle with a focus on tradition and development, and the combination with Sulwhasoo seems to be perfect.
_
I visited Sulwhasoo Bukchon once again, which I had previously visited and photographed and posted. Although it was only a few months since I visited Bukchon, I wanted to gauge how much I had grown during that time. I was curious to see how much my skill in looking at space and capturing the gaze has improved. It seems to have grown a little, but it seems to be only about that few months. Thank you for not stagnating, and it will be a good nutrient for future growth.

Transformation of a factory complex The urban regeneration of the past began in Europe in 1910. Factory complexes and residential complexes that were created in the industrialization era were abandoned as they changed into a new industrial era. Urban regeneration began to revive the slumped space, and the famous cities we know now regain vitality. Seongsu-dong is a place with the most similar transition process in Korea. Among them, this brick factory has now become a showroom for cafes and design brands, continuing its new vitality. - Disappeared hometown🌏 - Seoul in 2050, it used to be an area with many factories. 20 years ago, a spaceship crash landed and aliens landed here. Unable to return because the spaceship was completely destroyed, they had to do anything to adapt to life on Earth. The first thing they did to infiltrate this unfamiliar environment was to enclose the ship's exterior with bricks, similar to the buildings here on Earth. After that, they found a place to hide, but they ran out of food, and they knew that the clothes they were wearing here were quite eye-catching through the people of Earth who looked at them on the road. They identified the clothes being made here and started making and selling clothes based on their skill and aesthetic standards. - No spacecraft have crash-landed since then. This is the first and last spaceship space. I've been wondering for a long time. I liked to visit the space long before I turned 30, but I don't know why I only came here now. Devastated land It may be because there is no more interesting space on this land because of rising sea level due to rising temperature, frequent storms, and epidemics still circulating. As I approach my 60th birthday, I am still curious about the new space. So I stopped by. - The interior of the spaceship was a unique view. Somewhere, the water was seeping in, and the command room had been turned into a lounge. Perhaps the spaceship's gravitational field is still distorted, or somewhere, the shoes are attached to the ceiling. Although it is the clothes we usually wear, their aesthetic sense is somehow different. There were hats with identical eyes to them, and the pockets were all slightly different from those on Earth. He overturned the concept of front and back and also overturned the typical fit of a suit called a suit. - Since it was a spaceship in the first place, each room was independent with a huge door, and the ground surface the spacecraft crash-landed on could be seen from the entrance. I still enter the space with a single line, but it is still inconvenient. However, since this place was a spaceship, it maintains the same accounting flow like an art museum, so there is little contact with visitors. The fun ends here. After opening the hidden wooden door of the last road, it is the entrance space that you first entered. - When will we be able to take off our masks and return to the Earth of the past, where new spaces appeared every day? After 30 years of living in an uncomfortable day every day, more than half of the human race agrees even if this is the daily life of mankind. They haven't seen the sunset over the beautiful sea of the lost city of Busan yet, so that's good enough. - If people of 20 years can read this article, please think carefully. Is this the daily life you dreamed of? - This is the #adererror showroom, the ship crash-landed in holy water. - Ps. Today is a short novel. Space usage information is hidden in the novel. Fashion brand showroom. There is no cafe. Nearby cafes are #Baishan, #Yeonmujang, and #Lost Seongsu #rawcoffeestand. - Location _ 82 Seongsui-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul - Business hours _ 13-21 - No parking
