STUDIO LENCA's first solo exhibition in Asia, 《I’m working on leaving》, is being held at Tang Contemporary Art. Originating from El Salvador, the artist expresses the images of his experiences as a stranger in an unsettled environment, after leaving his homeland during the violent civil war of the 1980s. Tagged as a refugee and struggling to find a place of belonging, he has conveyed these emotions with a tender sensitivity, a distinctive delicate touch, and a richness of thought. The exhibition features the 'Moving in landscape' series, capturing the figures of refugees piled up in trucks in search of a new life, alongside other objects that construct the artist's inner world: images of suitcases ready to be taken away at any moment, birds that seem to lead to new places, and jars that provide a sense of stability, commonly seen in the artist’s homeland. These objects are metaphorically represented in about 30 representative works.
